Places to visit close to Milan
Close to Milan there are many “must-sees”. One of them is, of course, the lake in Como. It is located around 50km from the city in the north of Italy, near the Swiss border.
Lake Como is one of the deepest and nicest lakes in Europe and the view that it offers, is one of the best in Lombardy. In the past it was the favorite residence for aristrocatic people, while nowadays many VIPs (Ronaldinho, George Clooney, Sylvester Stallone, Versace, Madonna, etc.) have decided to buy their own house on the lake’s rivers.

Things to do in lake Como
There are many thingsto do in lake Como. Our suggestion is to visit the Medieval Historical Center to discover its tiny squares that will take you straight to the front of the Cathedral of Como, dating back from the 14th century.
A little walk along the shoreline of Lake Como will bring you to “tempio Voltiano” – Volta temple. This special museum is dedicated to the life and work of Alessandro Volta, the famous Italian physicist responsible for the invention of the modern battery. Inside the museum you can find his original projects and experimental devices.
For the bravest people who like adventures, close to “Nord” station, there is a funicular which takes you up the hill (around 700m high) in a few minutes, and from up there, with a quick 5min walk you will get to the old “faro voltiano” to enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the lake and the huge Alps.
Another things to do in lake Como and funny option to visit the lake could be the ferry boat. Many of those ferries are available all day long and they offer seats for daily/few hours trip. These trips give you the chance to admire the most famous and touristic localities, such as Bellagio – an hour away (by ferry or by car) from Como.
In Bellagio you can visit and walk through the gardens of “Villa Melzi d’Eril”, a famous private residence which is open from March to November.
